Hello,
Can you guys tell me which one is correct:
1,Brian and Teresa knew each other for ten years before they got married
or
2. Brian and Teresa had known each other for ten years before they got married

I was thinking 2nd ?

Anonymous which one is correct Both are correct, but most natives choose 1. The word "before" makes the time relationship so clear that it is not necessary to resort to the past perfect to show that relationship. CJ
