Knew
In a movie subtitle I got this line that I haven't understood.
Can you imagine what the boss would say if he knew where we were.
Please explain why didn't he say "will" instead of "would" and "knows" instead of "knew" cause while they were searching the element the boss wouldn't know this. Please explain.
