There are some things that you know that you are good at, things that fill you with energy and new ideas. The world of Business has always inspired me. As such, I decided to undertake a bachelor degree which would introduce me to the plethora of its operations and its application in the real world of business and management.



Since my lyceum I was always attracted to more practical courses. Courses that have to do with numbers, find new solutions or proposals for a case. These kind of courses keep me active and my mind is working on a daily bases for new innovated ideas. After high school I decided that if I wanted to succeed, I had to take each step at a time and learn as much as I could.



My first step in this educational trip has come to an end, as I have just received my General Business degree from the . My next step is to pursue a postgraduate degree in order to widen the breadth of my knowledge and to proceed one step closer to my ultimate goal of becoming a successful businesswoman.

Studied at the , I was always an enthusiastic student, while I had major favourite modules like advertising and marketing communications, management, accounting and finance. Yet, I understand that the business world today is more complex and it is precisely this complexity that has drawn me to study business, further. Studied for a BA in General Business has provided me with the knowledge base necessary to pursue the career I choose.



While at university I have gained valuable experiences both practically and theoretically that contribute to my candidacy for this course. The combination of the theory and practice together has an amazing outcome.



Through the numerous projects that I have completed, I have gained valuable insight into the real application of marketing communication and business. For example, one of the most interesting projects I have done during my studies was the design of an advertising campaign. That, gave me the opportunity to understand the world of marketing better ad develop a more critical and innovative approach to marketing communication strategies. The success of the project lies in the effective reformulation of the company’s goal and the way that was used as a basis for the design of the new advertisement and the motto that could attract the target market that the company wanted. I realized that I enjoy the multitude of the subject as it involves looking at an operation from a holistic point of view, encapsulating not only the business as such but also the demographics, the location as well as the community itself including its idiosyncrasies, its culture and attitude.



My undergraduate studies have given me a thorough understanding and an insight to the various disciplines of marketing, business structure, management, accounting, finance, web design and even graphics. So by covering courses from all those areas, I understood how these relate to each other when put into practice. Having a strong theoretical but also practical understanding of the various disciplines has helped me investigate further how a business works. I am able to identify its strengths and weaknesses, the opportunities and the threads that has.





Beside the completed first step, there is a step the will never finish, the career step. I am working at Dynamo Motor Repairs Ltd, a family business. Our company deals with generators. We import generators from Italy, Spain and . Also we are the dealers in the for the Odyssey Batteries. We provide services such us selling, hiring, repairing and service. I am in charge for all the office tasks, which include customer service, quotations, hire, selling, keep filing order, market research, web page design and new ideas for expanding. I started working there since I was 15 years old.



At first, my job was just helping the secretaries in the office. Now I came to the point were I am able to control, check and deal with every task of the company. All this work experience I had, up until now gave me a strong feeling of responsibility. I realized that everything is achieved through hard work and start from the bottom to get to the top and that’s where I want to get.



I started coming forward with new ideas for reorganizing, regenerate and expanding. Everything I have learned until now, I am trying to put it in action. I started by experimenting with all these theories and trying to find what are there real outcome.



I search for installing a server in the company. I have to admit that it was my first most difficult decision I took in the company with my own risk. After we installed the server I was searching for installing a new and improved accounting and stock control program. I checked a couple of them and since I have a certificate in this kind of programs I knew what I was looking for. We arrange a meeting with each and every one of them and after that we decided which one was the best for us. We arrange seminars that take place almost every week in our facilities for the accounting and stock control programs.



My concern, after all these information I got, was if I was able to work to the area of generators. I didn’t have any knowledge about these things. So I started asking for explanations. What is this and what is that. Firstly I learned what are there dimensions, weight, noise level, their maximum power, their engine type etcetera. I learned the difference between a silent and an open generator. What each colored socket does on the generator and why. Now I was able to help any customer who was interested for a generator.





What made me keep working and getting involved in this area, is that my dad is willing to help learn the practical part of my studies. But the thing that amazed me and made me feel worthy is that he was open for new ideas, new theories, plans and he was willing to risk for these ‘new’ things from a girl that just has finished her bachelor. Together with my dad we search for all the mechanical exhibitions that happening around the world. For the last two years my dad goes to the Chinese exhibition that takes place every year in October. In my future plans is to attend in this exhibition and take a close up in this new and huge market.



After learning the basics on the machines, I return to my station, the office. At the moment I am searching and designing a web page for Dynamo Motor Repairs.



My goal, after I finish with my studies, is to go back to the company with more knowledge and full with ideas for an upgrade, to search Cyprus Market and find new targets for expanding. I have realized that as time goes by, competition is getting higher. People expand their knowledge and demand more things. So I want to be sure that our company is able to supply our customers with what they demand. Also I am thinking for starting a course or training for generators.



A lesson that life taught me all this years in the work is that new ideas, reorganizing, market research etc wont’ give you the perfect outcome you are looking for. The perfect outcome is achieved through hard TEAM work. If the office team isn’t productive then the expected outcome won’t come. It’s like the human body. For the perfect body function all human organs must work right. Each and every organ depends on the other. If one of the organs is dysfunction then the rest of them will do the same.



FOR MARKETING COMMUNICATION

After all of these, I came to the conclusion that focus my studies on marketing communications will be a good. Earning an MA in marketing communications will enhance my ability to think analytically and strategically, to understand the psychological and social elements that motivate individuals, and to be an effective communicator and problem-solver. I will add to my basic knowledge and learn to apply theories to work in the marketplace.
