The effects of social networking sites on an individual and a community.

Social Networking sites like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc are popular online platforms nowadays which makes it easy to connect with people. Some people think that these platforms outweigh more negative effects than positive ones to an individual as well as to a society but my opinion is little different as I believe these platforms are more beneficial to an individual and more detrimental to a community.

First of all, let me discuss the benefits of this technology . We all know how Facebook is making it possible to connect with people not only from different parts of the country but also from across the globe. This connectivity helps users to make new friends, discuss their interested topics, ask their queries, etc. For example, in Facebook, users just need to send friend requests, and once accepted they become friends, atleast virtually. This is also beneficial for an shy individual who finds it difficult to make friend in the real world . Also, for those who want to ask their queries such as from engineering, medical, investment etc can post such their problems in a platform like Quora where experts from around the world are ready to answer. Again, there are various discussion forums in Facebook, Telegram, Instagram, etc where people discuss their hobbies such as their favorite sports , music, movies etc. As we can see, all these things are made possible by these social networking sites.

On the contrary, these platforms show negative impact to a community. As people are becoming more interested in online conversation, real live interaction is diminising. It is irony to see that that thought people can easily express themselves by posting their thoughts in Facebook but unfortunately such expressiveness is absent in real live interaction. The consequence of this is the bonding between the people in society is becoming weaker.

In conclusion, these platforms show more advantages to an individual while more disadvantages to a community. Only if the people know how to limit their online usage and give time to society , then overall, these platforms would prove to be more beneficial.
