Question: Memorising facts is the most important way to succeed in education.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
To certain extent I agree, memorising factual information could help students in succeeding their education. However, I also think that developing necessary skill set is the best way to succeed in education.
We live in knowledge based economy where independent thinking and problem solving are the most important skills. It is true that memorising facts are important ,however this should be used for understanding the function of the things. For example, there is an Indian movie ,which is called 3 idiots, scrutinise the education system, built on memorising factual information and ignoring the need to use that information. In the end of the movie, most people understood the importance of independent thinking by seeing the main protoganists' succeed.
Additionally, most people society admire, did not graduate from university or seen as failed students, achieved the things that people can only imagine. One clear example is Bill Gates, who did not graduate from university and possibly seen as failed student by many people, now he made his name in history in golden letters with his succeed.Altough, the facts are necessary and true, and no one can imagine a world without them, these facts could not support students through life and career which made us to ask ourselves, what does succeed in education mean.Meaninglessly scoring higher points in exams and proudly displaying the graduation diploma on the wall or improving necessary mind skills for constantly changing eras, history often proves that learning logical ways and improving our minds is the definiton of the succeed in education
In conclusion, memorising facts is not the most important way in succeeding education, but understanding and applying them to real life situaitions is the best way.
