Kindly review my essay on reading newspapers. Thank you

In many countries, very few young people read newspapers or follow the news on tv. what do you think are the causes of this? what solutions can you suggest?

Many young adults do not read newspapers or watch news on TV in many parts of the world. This is happening because they think that news is irrelevant for them and they do not have enough time to follow it. There are a plethora of remedies to this problem.

There are two reasons why most young people do not follow any news. First, being the students they usually believe that it has no relevance for them. The only essential thing in their life is to complete their education so that they can obtain a desired job. In other words, they hardly consider any link between following news and their career. Second, they believe that they cannot take out time for reading newspapers or magazines since it is a time consuming task. That is to say, if they want to succeed in their career, they prefer to concentrate on their education and health rather than news. In Japan, for example, most university graduates obtain high-paying jobs despite the fact that they do not read newspapers. This is because they specialize in their field of studies.

The first remedial measure to this issue is that schools and colleges should make it mandatory for their students to follow news either on TV or in newspapers. In this way, they will read the newspapers frequently and would be updated on current affairs. Take the Cambridge University for example. It is compulsory for its students to follow multiple news blogs otherwise they would be penalized. Another remedy to this issue is that employers should ask questions pertaining to current affairs at the time of interview. Once people realize that they would not obtain a job if they do not follow news, they would become habitual to read news. Google, for instance, hires only those candidates who follow the technology news and rejects all those who are not updated on technological news.

In conclusion, not having enough time and considering news irrelevant for their career are the primary reasons that most young people do not follow news. In order to encourage them to follow news, colleges and companies should make efforts.
