These days, people in many cities know little about neighbors and do not have sense of community. What are the causes and can you suggest any solutions?
Today many people do not know much about their neighbors and lack a sense of society where they can share some common values. While the main reasons for this are hectic work schedules and careless attitude of people, there are some possible solutions to this issue.
Having a strict work schedule as well as careless behavior of many have caused a lack of interest to know their neighbors. People tend to be busy in their life as they spend more time at work instead of their home. This is because of excessive competition at work. For example, in the movie, The Struggle, a person was killed by someone, but his neighbor, the lone mother was not aware of it. The reason was that she used to do overtime at her office. In addition, people do not care about others living in their neighborhood as they want to concentrate on their own lives. In other words, they do not want to involve in other's lives. As a result, they never contact their neighbors which is a serious concern as society cannot be developed without it.
There are two effective remedies to this problem. First, residents of the same area should spend more time with each other. This can be done over weekends if they are busy on working days. Most citizens of Sydney, for instance, take their children to play areas on every Sunday so that they can talk to other residents of the same area. Another remedy to this issue is that people should change the behavior of their children and encourage them to play with other children of neighborhood. In other words, children should be exhorted to spend time with other pupils in neighborhood so that they can know each other well.
In conclusion, people hardly know about their neighbors due to various reasons which can hinder the development of cohesive society. However, this can be resolved if people, including their children, spend enough time with their neighbors.
