Statement of Purpose

The development in biology has come a long way from the 19th century. The past century has thrown open the doors for unabated technological advancement and has created opportunities of growth in newer dimensions which we never thought existed even a short time ago. The study of living things at a molecular level deeply intrigues and appeals to me. I believe that there are still many new and exciting discoveries waiting to be found, which are hidden within nature, and of beneficial use to humans and the environment.

To excel in the futuristic workplace of tomorrow, one will need to posses a perfect blend of theoretical study and practical experience. I want to be a part of this exiting race to create a more scientifically advanced tomorrow and I envision graduate studies as a path towards my advancement in this direction. To me, Biochemistry is not just a tool that benefits an individual, but also the community and society at large. To realize my dreams and to achieve my career goals, I foresee your university as the right destination.

My interest in Biochemistry developed while I was a student of M.Sc Biochemistry in JamiaHamdardUniversity. In the course duration of Masters I have been exposed to many fields of study like Cell Biology, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, and Molecular biology, Genetics, Immunology, Nutrition and Enzymology. “Isolation, purification and characterization of Hen’s Egg White Protein Ovalbumin, Immunization of rats with it and isolated IgG” and used molecular and immunological techniques for the study. This dissertation work helped me to understand Cell Biology as a system in detail.

While studying Post Graduate Diploma in Nanotechnology fromUniversityofDelhigave me ideas as to how can we make small-scale materials. In nature the cell is a very well organized structure, which is made up of molecules smaller than a nanometer. Synthesizing Gold nanopaticles and checking toxicity of Zinc Oxide and Nanoclay on Tobacco plants reinforced my interest in biochemistry involving nanoparticles. While completing the project in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),Delhifor Nanotechnology gave me an opportunity to work in one of the premiere institutes of the country. I was completely awed by the scope of this field and the questions it tries to answer. Keeping up an inquisitive and explorative attitude, I believe, leads to a constant learning process. This approach adds to the already immense potential for innovation that exists in this field.

Apart from studies I have only had three jobs to date. I have worked as Customer Care Executive in Jindal’sIntellicomContactCenterfor two years, now as a part-time Announcer/ Presenter and Voice-over Drama Artist with All India Radio and volunteer part-time for a NGO. Apart from responsibility to do a job properly, the most important lesson I think I have learned is the importance of teamwork.

All this work experience in the field of biochemistry has made me confident and has reinforced my interest and love for this field. Hence I have decided to apply for a doctorate position in Biological Sciences. While looking for a suitable PhD position I came across your laboratory and the kind of research that you do, signaling caught my attention.
Given proper opportunity and creative atmosphere I do want to explore this field relentlessly with my heart and soul involved. Science for me is not just a profession or occupation, it is my passion. I have realized that science is the field for me and I would like to dedicate my carrier to science. I look forward to refine my knowledge and skills in my areas of interest in your Laboratory.
I feel that graduate study at your University will be the most logical extension of my academic pursuits and a major step towards achieving my objectives.
I would be grateful to you if I am given the opportunity to pursue my graduate studies at your institution and am able to justify your faith in me.
