Generally speaking, the perfect tenses are used without a specific time reference like 'in 2005'.

Say, eg 'I purchased a TV in 2005'.

CliveHi,

If you wish to discuss them, let me begin by asking you if you know the difference between

Hi,

Mary has cooked dinner. This is an action in the past that has importance in the present. In other words, dinner is ready now, come and eat!

Tom came home at 7pm. Mary had cooked dinner. 'Mary had cooked . . ' describes an action in the past before some other action (before 'Tom came home'). The first action had importance at the time of the second action.
