Kindly as please

Hi

A lot of people use kindly in the meaning of please. Does the use sound OK to native ears?

Kindly open the door.
Kindly respond quickly.

I always change 'kindly' to 'please' when editing correspondence, but yes. What is wrong is 'please kindly' and 'I kindly...'

As you say, a lot of people use it and we are used to it even if we might prefer 'please'.

But in speech, it often sounds stiff and rather formal.

Native English speakers don't normally use it. It sounds excessively formal and brings to mind speakers of Indian English because, they are normally the only people who say it.
