'Kind regards' debate

Kind regards used as an expression to end any form of written comunication, has been bugging me for some time. In spite of its traditional roots, and if taken literally, it seems to imply 'kindness' on the part of the writer; i.e. I bestow upon you my regards, and it is kind of me so to do. That's why I avoid it like the plague.

Warmest regards, John Morris
