1. What's your favorite kind of animal?

2. What's your favorite animal?

- These are the same meaning, right? and which one is more common?

Hi, They are not the same. When we talk about types of animals, we talk about animal families such as vertebrates, invertebrates, mammal, insects, etc... Best, Hoa Thai

They are not the same. When we talk about types of animals, we talk about animal families such as vertebrates, invertebrates, mammal, insects, etc...

In my opinion, both of those questions mean the same thing.

During a normal conversation, my response would be the same for each question:

Question: "What's your favorite animal?" Answer: Dogs.
Question: "What's your favorite kind of animal?" Answer: Dogs.
Question: "What's your favorite type of animal?" Answer: Dogs.

Both ways are perfectly fine. #2 would prob

You are right! In daily conversation, people do not even think of protozoa, or echinoderms; but dogs, cats, etc...
However, if asked, "What's your favorite kind of animal?", they could answer, "four-legged kind" - right?

If the question were put by someone with a special interest in fauna, I would myself find a slight difference here, and take #1 to mean "What's your favourite group of animals?",
