Kind?

Hi,

In a formal letter, can I use "kind" as it follows? I want a polite and respectful sentence:

I highly appreciate your kind consideration.

Thanks

Yes. However, is this in response to kind consideration that has already occurred, or in request of kind consideration yet to occur? The reason I ask is that if it hasn't occurred, it may be a bit presumptive to state you appreciate it in advance.

  • Depending on the context that could sound arrogant or rude; as though you have an expectation.
  • " If the kind consideration has already happened, and this letter is a thank you of sorts, then your sentence is appropriate as it stands.

In my experience, some countries/cultures are much more polite than others.
Here in Canada, I usually find that my Iranian students sound, to me, excessively and unnaturally polite.

Things are different on the internet. People who, I am sure, are polite in their everyday behaviour, seem to think it;s fine to make demands in forum without any thoughts of using a 'please'.
