killer bees

In the movie "We Bought a Zoo", the protagonist says something like:
"I think it could be a series like the killer bees."
I wonder if anyone get what he means by "killer bees" being a series. Seems like a cultural reference but can't think of any.
Help?

Hi; "Killer bees" is a term for wild African bees that were released in South America and are now an invasive species in the Southern US. They compete with our native honeybees, do not produce very much honey, and are very aggressive. They are very nasty insects.
