Kicking to a foundation.

I try to understand the meaning of "foundation" in this sentence.

"I am guessing that Dennis has jumped on or kicked the floor or foundation, and heard a hollow sound, as if there is open space beneath the surface material."

"Kicking to a foundation" makes no sense to me. How can a person kick to a "foundation."

Is the meaning of "foundation" the first one in WordWeb?

Thank you.
