Kick ass and bad ass

Hey everyone, we know "bad ass" and "kick ass" are basically the same as "cool", what I'm trying to find out is if the above words which contain "___ass" are in any way vulgar or are they as polite as cool? And one more thing, is "above words" I used, grammatically correct?

They are vulgar. You should not say them in front of your mother. They are spelled "badass" and "kick-***", by the way, and "badass" does not mean "cool" but "formidable".

  • You have used it properly as far as it goes, but "words above" is better.
