It's an excerpt from Khushwant Singh's essay on R K Narayan (both Indian writers). I could not understand what made Narayan angry with K Singh. Could you please help?

I presume that the Singh's self-criticism and the Narayan's reaction described in I was foolish enough to write it in my column. Narayan never spoke to me again was new in the whole story.
Paraphrasing and reading between the lines, this is what Singh said about Narayan:
