Kept alive/held alive

Can someone explain me the difference?

And what would you use in this sentence:

"The room was kept/held alive only by the light from a turned on TV."

And another question: Is "only" placed correctly or would you instead place it before kept/held?

Thank you.

Top answer

The man was kept alive on life support for many months. That he survived was a miracle. Fancy restaurants hold the lobsters alive in a saltwater tank until a restaurant patron selects them for dinner.
