Keeping up with the living standards?

Hi, I am writing a letter to my employer for monthly incentive and in the application I want to write ;

"The cost of keeping up with the living standards has gone up"

I want to ask whether I am sounding needy(which I want to) through the above sentence or am I sounding someone who wants a modern and comfy lifestyle?

Top answer

" I want to ask whether I am sounding needy(which I want to) through the above sentence or am I sounding someone who wants a modern and comfy lifestyle? The phrase is a standard one in requests for salary increases. How it is understood depends on your boss's beliefs about the adequacy of your salary.
