Keep something secret with someone.

What does the above mean? If I say "I shall keep it a secret with him.", does it mean the secret is shared only BETWEEN/AMONG the speaker, the listener and HIM? What does "with him" really mean? Is the secret supposed to be HIS secret?

healer What does the above mean? I don't think that is a possible expression. You can keep it secret from him.

You can keep / share / have a secret with someone. (Each of you knows it, but nobody else does.)

You can keep a secret from someone. (Several people, including you, know it, but he - the "someone" - doesn't.)

That reminds me of a famous quote:

Benjamin Franklin: “Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead.”
