keep noise smell in

If you are doing something in the den, and there is a curtain separating 2 rooms, does this make sense and is it natural?

Do you think a curtain can keep a noise or smell in/from penetrating even just a little or is does it not make a difference at all?

Thank you for your help

There are several ways to word this. Do you think a curtain can block a noise or smell from crossing between two rooms, even just a little, or will it not make any difference at all? Or Do you think a curtain can keep a noise or a smell outside a room, even slightly, or will it not make any difference?

  • The difficulty, other than the incorrectness of "is does it not" is that smells and noises are different physical events (so it is hard to have one verb for both).

Okay, let me try to sort out your sentences. Here is how I would say it:

Don't make food in there, the food is going I take the smell of the ****.
Don't make food in there because the food is going to take on the smell of the ****.

Don't put water in thermostat. It'll take the taste of the coffee that had been stored in there no matter how much yo
