Keep an eye out for//on any interesting birds

I'll sit here and keep an eye out for any interesting birds.

HI,

Is it the same to say "keep an eye on any interesting birds" instead of "keep an eye out for any interesting birds" in the above? If not, could you explain why? Thanks.

I think they got different meaning keep an eye on somebody, to be watching carefully especially when you don't trust them Keep an eye out for something, to be watching carefully so you notice when something happens. So I think it's better to say I'll sit here and keep an eye out for any interesting bird.
