Kaneshiro grew up between/in two cutures

Kaneshiro grew up between/in two cutures--Taiwan's and Japan's. He speaks five languages and has made films in four countries.

Hi,

Does either between or in fit in the above and mean about the same? Thanks.

Thanks, Mister.

But the original uses "between." I wonder if it is wrong.

By the way, the sentence is from an article written for the senior high school kids here, and the author is unknown.

Not 'wrong', I suppose, but an unfortunate word choice. It sounds silly to me. There is nothing between Taiwanese culture and Japanese culture except the East China Sea.
