Can you please help me with the choice of words here.

Basic messages (?) of mentioned books refer to validity/justifiability of principled negotiation and to an attempt to meet the needs of the other party, without jeopardizing one's own basic interests.

I like the first part of the sentence. The second has slightly different meaning than original.

Efectiveness is what I need here, I think. It is valid if it is effiective, I guess.
