Just when I had the opportunity

Hello,

Brandon: I cannot afford to lose one minute! Forgive me.

Mrs. Jennings: I hope it’s nothing serious, Colonel.

John Middleton: Upon my soul, this is all very unusual.

Lucy: Just when I had the opportunity

Sense and Sensibility (1995)

Context: Colonel Brandon hosted a party. On the day of party, when everyone was assembled, he suddenly left because of something urgent. Mrs. Jennings, John and Lucy remarked on his leaving.

How can I interpret “just when I had the opportunity”?

As far as I can tell, it means "Just at the time when I had the opportunity (to do something), Colonel Brandon is leaving, so it is no longer possible (to do that thing)".
