Just want to ask about "what happened ?"

Teachers, I want to ask about the words "what happened?". is it right? since "happened" here is past from. Is it mean that something happened in the past? so, is the words "what happened" must be written with past from of the word "happen"? or there is more correct way to write that words?

thx

Yes, it is correct. There are various related ways to ask the same thing.

  1. "What happened?"
  2. "What has happened?"
  3. "What was happening?"
All the above are correct. The biggest difference is number 3. which uses the word "was" to locate the action in the past, and the progressive tense "happening".

Here are some example usages.

ilmawhat happened?". is it right?
It's right.

What happened? is a question. You are asking someone to identify an event that occurred because you don't know.

You hear a crash.
-- What happened?
-- I dropped a plate on the floor and it broke.
