Just simple question.

Hey Guys,

may I have a simple question? Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't make a conclusion, what was the point of the next dialog.

Guest of the hotel approached to the "guest service" guy, which then asked: "Ah, Hello mr. Jennings, How are you finding New York? ". And Mr Jennings answered: "Lonely, i'm afraid. Very lonely, indeed. ". Guest service guy said to this: "Sorry, to hear that."

Please, was that guest saying, that he was feeling lonely??? Because he then asked, if there are some night clubs in the near area of the hotel, where he can get a lady companionship....Or was he saying that New York is actually lonely place (he looked to be in the desperate mood) ??? Please, what would you say?...I can't say for sure...Emotion: sad

thx in advace.

kind regards

Thanks Feebs. I thought it, but I was not sure, because I aways have been thinking that the question "How are you finding <something>?" means only "what's your opinion about <something>" or "what do you think about <something>". Personally, I have never heard it in that way..:-

There are so many ways he could have answered:

It's an exciting city - so much to do.
The food here is fabulous!
I've seen some great plays!
It's so loud and crowded.
Rather overwhelming.

He could have answered describing the CITY, or describing how HE felt in the city.

As Philip says, based on your experiences so far... which could have been good or bad.
