Screenwriting

Just saw " eternal sunshine" - a short analysis (spoilers in here)

I thought it was brilliant, but a few parts didn't make any sense. I guess they were doing the overnight memory easure at "joel's" own apartment, but the thing that didn't make sense was that no doctor would leave a procedure like this for some overnight attendant, out of his office. In the midst of all the fantasy, that was not believable. The story also did not show or explain how clementine went from being the new girlfriend of one of the doctor's employees, to being back with Joel again.
I dunno, in my screenwriting class, stuff like that would get criticized. Yet this sp got an oscar. I am wondering, maybe it doesn't all have to make sense, if the rest of it is great, and one is already established?

My take on it we see Clementine getting back with Joel at the beginning, even though we think at the time it's the first time they get together. It's to show the cyclical nature of their relationship and the part destiny and pre-determination plays. There is no beginning and no end (remember, we never see the chapters of their relationship in a linear way).

  • It reminded me a bit of the Cortazar novel Hopscotch in that you could read (I think you're encouraged to read) the chapters out of sequence because there is no cause-and-effect, no start or finish to it, and yet at the same time, fate is leading them to some end point in the story, we know not where.
  • Will Joel and Clementine make a go of it second time round?

This was the kind of **** that pulled me out of the movie again and again. Entertaining as it is to see Kirsten Dunst leaping around in her underwear, all I could think wa

As I recall, there was a scene when she and Elijah Wood were on the frozen lake together, and he creeped her out somehow with all the references to her last relationship (some weird trigger in her obliterated memory, I guess), and
