Just inside the door ...

Hi

My friend was visiting a great cathedral in Italy. Just inside the door was a magnificent mosaic extending the width of the building.

--- Does it mean "right behind the door"? He saw it as he entered the cathedral?

Top answer

Yes - or at least, very close to the door. If it was "right behind", it may be considered an obstruction, or you are possibly being a little too precise.
