just because

Like many other land animals, elephants have four legs to move them around. But just because elephants have four legs doesn't mean they use them in the same way as other four-legged animals.

Can I restructure the last sentence like the below?

1. But just because elephants having four legs doesn't mean they use them in the same way as other four-legged animals.

2. But just because elephants have four legs, it doesn't mean they use them in the same way as other four-legged animals.

Yes, you will hear it said both ways. Some people think that the insertion of it/that makes the structure more logical, but I don't really think it does.

#2 is possible; #1 isn't.

I didn't notice the "ing" in #1. I thought it was the same sentence as in the original quotation. I agree with fivejedjon, of course.
