I am going to apply for English teacher assistant position. I am not native speaker and I was never good writer as well :-). I was wondering if someone competent could have a look at the this motivation letter and maybe give me some advide. The idea is to "share with them my reasons for wanting to become a volunteer teacher, my educational philosophy, and my thoughts on encountering cultural differences." Thank you. Bartosz
Here is the letter:
I am a XXXXX citizen currently living in XXXXX and I am very interested in the possibility of take part in “XXXX and XXXX with XXX” project organized by Social Science Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of XXXXX. I would be delighted to have another chance to pass on to the young people of such an inspiring country the knowledge and experience I have gained. I am also eager to learn more about the people live besides The XXXXXX Mountains. I would like to learn about their culture and traditions and teach them about mine.
After five years of studying in XXXXX I obtained a technical Maturity Certificate in Electronics together with Mathematics and English as additional subjects. After 14 months working as IT support in a local company I decided I wanted to explore the opportunities in a foreign country. Almost at random I chose XXXX where I was able to take Cisco Networking course and also to complete a course in English for Speakers of Other Languages at XXXX and XXXX Valley College. Whilst I was studying I earned my living baking biscuits in a local bakery. During my time at college I began to think about travelling and it seemed to me that just after graduation would be the perfect moment to do this. I decided to hitchhike East, through Poland, the Balkan, across Middle East, India and then through South East Asia to Australia. Having travelled for two years I decided it was time to go back home. After being back in Poland for a while I decided I wanted to travel again and I so set off hitchhiking to XXXXX, a country I didn’t know much about. I was only able to spend a few weeks there before returning to Poland. During that time I have learned about the XXXX program.
Although I had no university background in teaching, everything changed when I moved to an English speaking country. I stayed in the United Kingdom for almost three years, and this, together with my year of English classes as college, has allowed me to improve my verbal and writing skills. My travels have also helped me to improve my language skills. On my way to Australia I volunteered at a High School in China and in Thailand as a teacher’s assistant. During that period I discovered my ability to communicate well with people, regardless of culture, age, or religion as well as having fun while passing on the knowledge I have gained. I found this to be not only an exciting time of adventure but also a personally enriching period where I was able to dedicate myself to helping others. I’m sure that, given the chance, I will be able to make a positive impact on people’s lives in XXXX.
Although I have only spent two weeks in XXXXX I found the people extremely hospitable. As a guest in some English classes in a small village near XXXX I found young people there eager to listen and learn, and they were very happy to share they incredibly rich history and culture with me. The children reminded me of myself when I first started learning English and wanted to share all I knew with others. While volunteering I will be able to use that experience to make the time spent during the classes interesting and beneficial for them.
I think that to volunteer is to dedicate your own time to others while expecting nothing in return. That is why it is most meaningful and rewarding period of an individual’s life. I am open minded dedicated and enthusiastic person with the ability to adapt easily to new situations and challenges. That’s why I am sure I will be helpful as a teacher’s assistant in XXXXX.
Thank you for considering my application,
