When a waiter asks you what you want to drink. Can you say:

Just water please.

I sometimes see that a comma is not used before 'please' in such constructions. I wonder whether it is becoming accepted. Another word is etc. Someimes I see a comma before 'etc' and sometimes the comma is missing. E.g. dogs, cats, rabbits(,) etc.

To tell you the truth, I felt it should be there, but I wasn't sure, because it's not a sentence.
I didn't want to say it was a mistake without being sure.

A careful, deliberate speaker might actually use a slight pause, but I don't.

I use a comma before "etc." but I consider it optional.
