Joke meaning

A: Even if you think we're delusional, whether you should go or not is a separate issue.

B: Was that a joke?

A: I tried telling a joke to relax your heart. Your heart should feel light now.

B: It doesn't.

At what point do I smile? I don't comprehend the joke meaning. Why is that a joke? I'm wanting to have native-speaker intuitions.

I don't see any joke there, although more context is needed to understand what "whether you should go or not" refers to. I think probably "joke" does not mean a smile/laugh joke, but a joke as in "frivolous" or "not serious".

AnonymousB: Was that a joke?

I think it is a euphemism. It is used instead of 'you can't be serious'.
