Joining two independent clauses with serial commas

Good afternoon all,

I've been using this site as a resource for quite some time, but I joined today because of this particular sentence:

"Treat students with caring, concern, and respect, and create new methods to engage, support, and delight them."

How should the two independent clauses be joined? The sentence doesn't seem right. I was unable to think of a way to correct it.. Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

It seems fine to me. Personally, I would omit the comma after respect.

Thanks, Clive. I was thinking of a semicolon to break up the clauses, but I wanted to get others' feedback. Sometimes I overthink things.

Aspara Gus Personally, I would omit the comma after respect.
And I would also omit the one after support. That eliminates 2 of the 5 commas and makes the sentence much less like a road with speed bumps.
