Join the two tables together?

When I went eat out with my friends at a very nice restaurant, I found we had so many people and the tables were kind of small, but we all wanted to sit together. So should I say let's join the two tables together, or say put the two tables together? Which is better? Maybe you can tell me something more correct.

Thanks!
