join or participate in ?

Hi teachers,

Is it ok if I write a notice to the eighth graders as below ?"

NOTICE

To : All pupils of class 8 A

This Sunday our school is holding /having a vacation trip to Dalat . If any of you would like to take part in /participate in /join the trip , please register with lady teacher Mary by March 20.

Teacher in charge

Tom Kerry

By the way please tell me how to use the verbs " join " and "participate /take part in " if they cannot be used interchangeably.

Thanks

Thank you Clive.

By the way , I read this sentence ( written by an Australian manager concerning the resignation submitted by a worker ), but don't understand it. Please explain to me the phrase in bold type:

" I don't see what we can do much except understand why he leaves the company"

Kind regards
