John hasn't obviously understood a word.

I'm trying to figure out the meaning difference between "John obviously hasn't understood a word" and "John hasn't obviously understood a word" I understand the former but not the latter.
1. It is not obvious that John understood a word.
2. John hasn't clearly understood a word.

Which one is correct?
Thank you in advance.

Anonymous Which one is correct? John obviously hasn't understood a word . Since the other one is not correct, there's no point in trying to figure out what it's supposed to mean.
