jocular terms for a doctor

Hi,

quack?
bolus?
croaker?

Which of them will do?

Imagine your good friends (a young couple) are both doctors. And you run into them on the street...

Would the following "salutation" be ok?

"Hi quacks! How are you today?"

Can I use "croaker" (or some other jocular term) in a similar case?

Thanks a lot!

I am so sorry... My dictionary positions "quack" next to "esculapian" ...that is why I was 100% sure "quack" was absolutely innocent

Hi,,

To me, 'sawbones' is an extremely old-fashioned term.

'Croak' is slang for 'die'.

Some slang terms for doctor:

sawbones (or 'bones, for short)

shrink (for psychiatrist, short for headshrinker)

daktari (Swahili for doctor - this is my favorite, and I'm just waiting to get on friendly enough terms with a doctor so that I can call him/her this)

doc (short for doctor)

medic

If you want a jocular way to greet a doctor, probably your best choice is "What's up, Doc?" This combines the casual term "doc" (for "doctor") with a line from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Hi,

The only time I've heard of a doctor being called 'bones' was the fictional Dr Leonard McCoy on the TV series Star Trek.
