Job rejection letters

Hello everyone! I am writing my course paper on Pragmatics. The purpose of my work is to investigate the pecularities of British job rejection letters. So, why do British people approach to letters as a way to let the applicant know that he doesn't fit in? I mean why they do not make phone calls or smth for that purpose? I was told that this is connected with British culture, that it's done out of politness, convenience etc. But still it's not clear enough to me.
Well, and if you happen to have some British job rejection letters, I'll be very grateful If you could send them to me. I badly need real examples and actually Google isn't much of help in this respect.

Sorry for such a clumsy question, Looking forward to your answers. Many thanks.

Hello, Yalla Yalla—and welcome to English Forums. Thank you for registering as a member. I don't think it is peculiarly British; they are a common fact of American business as well.

  • A written letter instead of a phone call allows the writer to compose his words more carefully, and it also provides a documented record of the action, should any legal consequences arise.
  • Sorry, I have no examples of job rejection, but here is a brief one I received from a poetry magazine: Dear Mister Micawber, We are grateful for the opportunity to read and consider your new work.
