Job App Statement - Check/Help

Hello,

I'm applying for a job which I think will be perfect to fit around my studies. The problem is that I'm not too great at wording stuff about myself on paper - I'm much better at the interview stage.

So, if anyone could check this for mistakes or if they think I should word something differently, that would be great. I'm especially unsure about the wording of the last passage.

Thanks,

In my most recent job my main day-to-day work involved general reception and administrative duties such as greeting visitors, handling telephone calls, data entry and audio typing, sending and replying to emails, etc. However, as my colleagues were Country Park Rangers I also took part in the running of various activities and events with a wide range of people and personalities. Whilst I worked with a variety of different groups of adults and youths, there was one group in particular that I think really helped improve my people skills. They were a group of mentally challenged adults who we worked with approximately once a month. All of them were very friendly, but some of them were also easily distressed and upset. I felt that I had to be really careful and think how they might interpret something I might say before I said anything. I think understanding that different emotions and personalities have to be handled in separate ways, and that a subtle difference in the wording of a question can make a big difference would definitely transfer over well for this job.

I was trained to use Microsoft Word and Excel through my employers and spent a lot of time using the skills I’d learned to improve my job performance and assist my colleagues. I spent a lot of time entering data from record books into spreadsheets. For example, when I had spare time I’d extract data from passages in a wildlife record book, which the Country Park Rangers began keeping in the early 1990s, and enter it into the relevant spreadsheet. I also typed documents for my colleagues if they were busy and occasionally did some audio typing for the Senior Ranger.

I’d like to work here because I’m sure it will be extremely rewarding due to the challenging nature of the job which will give me the opportunity to build on my people skills which will be vital throughout my career and life.
