Joan of Arc

Can anyone post some light on the expression:
"People laughed at Joan of Arc, but she built it anyway."

I don't know if that's really true, but it wouldn't surprise me. I hadn't heard the expression before, though. Gracie was a bit before my time.

LOL!!! A typical Gracie line! Her humor was based on pretending to be completely clueless. Here she confuses one historical figure with another (Joan of Arc / Noah), believing that Arc is the ark that Noah built.

I hadn't heard of her until today. I've been looking at youtube.com. One sketch she is saying her niece has 3 feet because her brother sent a letter saying she had grown another foot.
