Speech & Pronunciation

jewelry, particularly, squirrel, rural..

hi guys,

this is the first time I post something..because I joined in this forum yesterday-

so- Nice to meet you all! :-)

yesterday, I was reading about pronunciation, and I found most of the people in this forum have similar difficulties in terms of pronunciation.

there are some specific words that people share in common.

jewelry, particularly, squirrel, rural..

those words are the hardest words I always struggle to pronounce properly..('properly' is one of them as well..)

I can see those '~lry, ~rel, ~ral'..

I'm just curious if there is any kind of specific rule for those combinations.

the reason why I'm interested in the pronunciation is not only because I'm Englaish-as-Second-Language person, but also because I'm doing my school project (which is a grad project) about English pronunciation. so I'm also looking for a mentor who is an expert about ESL English like ESL teachers.

is ther anyone can help me, please please?

thanks a lot in advance. :-)

Hi Redwitch! Welcome to English Forums. I'm afraid I don't have any help to offer you on pronouncing these words, but I am curious -- may I ask what your first language is?

  • I would think that these r-l sounds are harder for speakers of some languages than others.
