Does your tongue touch the hard bump behind your upper front teeth when you pronounce /l/ in "jewelry"? I can pronouce properly /l/ in 'gallery, but as for 'jewelry/jewellery', my tongue doesn't touch the area behind my upper front teeth when I pronoucne /l/. Thanks.

Mine doesn't, but mine often doesn't in a lot of other cases (and I am not a native speaker). For example in "milk": it depends, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The same goes for words like "cool". I think it just depends how dark your L's are. I don't remember the phonetic symbol for those kinds of super-dark L's, but they are used by several native speakers in the US, as far as I know.
