For the same reason that cavemen from the dawn of time all have shaggy beards but cavewomen, presumably from the same dawn of time, all have shaved armpits and legs.

I dunno. I think I've had a thing for her ever since I saw her swimming in that pool of maggots and rotting corpses in "Phenomena". whew Hot stuff.

I lived on Clinton Street (located in New York City's Lower East Side) at the height of "heroin chic", on the very block that was the center of the dope trade, so I knew and saw junkies of all types. Sure, there were the dirty, shabbily dressed junkies crashed out in the stairwell of my building that I'd have to step over every morning, but I also knew quite a few well-to-do upper class heroin addicts who were impeccable when it came to their personal grooming. Methinks your impressions of what a heroin addict looks like is somewhat antiquated and ill-informed.

The Disneyfication of Manhattan drove the dope dealers off the streets and all the little bodegas that used to sell are now chic little boutiques and trendy restaurants. Your stereotypical street junkie is nowhere to be seen, but you can bet that all those rich kids who started shooting dope in the 90's because they read William Burroughs and Jim Carrol have still got their habits (which they feed via delivery services now). They can remove those piercings and get those tatoos lasered off, but their need for smack is something they'll carry with them for a lifetime.
