Japan's plans to increase imports of oil

Japan, the fourth consumer of energy in the world, can increase imports of oil up to 3 million barrels per day by the year 2015. According to the specialists's figures, deregulation of the energy market will lead to constant growth of the consumption of crude oil in the country. It is very significant for the world market because Japan has no energy resources, which makes it buy them from abroad. Thus, the forthcoming increase in the Japanese demand will drive up world prices of the Middle Eastern oil, which accounts for the main part of Japan's imports. Japan will probably revise its development plan for nuclear energy. The reason for this is economic, rather than ecological - Japan will benefit more from burning imported oil than from building new nuclear power stations. However, if Japan puts more money in the development of oil exploration in Russia and China, then its pressure on the world market will turn out to be less but anyway sufficient to make some trouble for the USA and bring some money into the Russian budget. Japan, itself, is not worried about the increase in oil prices. This state can be explained through elaborate financial and social policy. As distint from the USA for example, Japan has a favourable balance of payments. Besides, the Japanese are used to high oil prices which are absolutely inconceivable for the Americans (for instance, the Japanese pay 2-3 times as much as the Americans for some sorts of petrol).
