Hi all,

Which one of the following sentences is not correct, please?

1- Japan is the pride of the Asia.
2- Japan is one of the prides of the world.
3- Putin is making Russia a dictatorial.
4- Erdogan is making Turkey a dictatorial.
5- Kurdistan is on the frontline of the war again ISIS.

1- Japan is the pride of the Asia.
2- Japan is one of the prides of the world. We don't normally have more than one 'pride' of a place.
3- Putin is making Russia a dictatorial. Putin may be dictatorial. He may be making Russia a dictatorship.

Why last "the" in #1 is excess but not in second, please? It seems that using "the" is different for "Asia" and "world"!

Indeed it is. Asia is a proper noun and most proper nouns, i.e. names of places and people, take no article. World is a common noun, not even capitalised like proper nouns, and since we have only one wo

Japan is a proper nou because there is only one of that. No!? is there any other Japan out there?
The same is for "world".
Now how you could we determine the correct placing of that "the", please?
