Odd to see that Jane shaved, way back in 1934. I know it's a practice that comes and goes, but it still seems a little out of place. Maybe it was to contrast with Tarzan's distinctly primitive nature?

Got it on DVD (along with all of the other Tarzan films in 2 boxed sets... hehehe, he said "box").
Nudity was a normal part of pre-code cinema - this was an adventure film that was aimed at the whole family. When the Hayes Code came in, they cut (and usually destroyed) all of these scenes. And since censorship continued in one way or another, even the scenes that weren't destroyed just weren't taken care of at all. Why pay to store a scene that no one will ever see again? Whole scenes, whole early films - gone. We have no idea what's gone in some cases. Every once in a while they stumble on some old film cans and... METROPOLIS has new scenes! (The robot is topless in that film, by the way). In the really early days, nickleodeon and silent shorts often featured famous strippers and sometimes *** shows... few of those exist anymore.

The strange thing is - at some point in cinema, someone (Jon Breen) decided nudity was wrong, and it was just removed from existing films and future films. Discussion of social issues Breen didn't like - removed from existing films and future films. They used to make films about the problem of teen ***, unwanted pregnancy, addictions, etc - but it was decided that even a discussion of some negative aspects of our society might just lead to people accepting these things. So we went from nudity on screen... to not even being able to show a husband and wife sleeping in the same bed!
By the way, with was not O'Sullivan nekkid, it was an Olympic swimmer (can't remember her name) doubling her.

I think Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway should do a totally all-nude movie together to completely rectify the abomination that you have described. That's just not right!
Also, they should do the rehearsals at my house.

It's amazing when you watch these early uncut Tarzan movies, not only the nudity and the erotic content but just how violent they were people being strung between bent-down trees and torn in half and thrown into pits with mad gorillas and shot in the head with arrows and squashed by elephants and that was just before breakfast.

And just for the record, in those early Tarzan movies, Jane was a complete and total ***.
