Jack told me that he wished / wishes ....

Hello,
I have asked this question in almost three forums because in the first forum when I asked it, native English speakers gave me different answers so I decided to ask it in other forms (here) too in order to see what you think about my question.
This is the link where I have asked my question: http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=2934014

My question was this:

I wish I were at their party now. Jack told me that he ……. at their party then.
a)wishes he had been
b)wished he was
c)wishes he were
d)wished he were (Answer Key)

Source: school exam

Hello,
This test is a little bit confusing to me. Can options B or C work in the test or not?
This is my analysis:
B (wished he was) = can be correct because some people still use [was] instead of [were]
C (wishes he were) = can be correct if the words were uttered not long ago and Jack still wishes this.

Am I right?

Thank you
(Would you please be kind enough to give me some guidance on this test?)

I meant that before asking my question in this forum, I had asked it in three forums and this one is the fourth forum. (your forum)

Then the 'almost' is meaningless.

I wish I were at their party now. Jack told me that he ……. at their party then.
a)wishes he had been
b)wished he was
c)wishes he were
d)wished he were

I think this is a ridiculous question for a school exam. I would have no idea which answer to choose.

Thanks for answering but may I know what has made it ridiculous? It because the words [then] and [now] are used?

If option A was (wished he had been), could it be the only answer because of the word [then]?

GPY told you - as a native speaker he would have no idea which answer to choose, Neither would I, and I am also a native speaker.

Then, if a person tells you please change this sentence into a reported speech, again will you say I have no Idea?

sb70012Suppose that I am your student, I give you this sentence without the options:I wish I were at their party now.I ask you to change it into a reported speech in the classroom. Is the blue sentence still awkward to be changed into the reported speech or it's ok?
Of course I can report that. However, that is not the question you originally posed.

Now what should I do? Should I post the blue sentence in a separate thread and ask for reporting it?
