I have a question about duration :

I've studied French for 10 years.

The duration of 'for 10 years' means "from 2001 up to now".

And does it also mean "from 1996 to 2000 plus from 2006 to now" ?

= I've studied French for 10 years. or I studied French for 10 years.

Am I right ?

Does "for the last ten yers" mean including "up to now" or "duration only in the past" ?
