I've already met a few new people after you went to Missouri. - Is this sentence correct?

The present perfect is incorrect here?

But without the since the present perfect is wrong right?

To my mind the orginal sentence is fine as it is.

I have to say, I'm with Philip on this. Since you did X, I have done Y. After you did X, I did Y.

I don't think if someone said "after" as in the original I would stop and think "There was something very wrong with that," but I would never write it that way.
